The Estádio Castelão in the city of Fortaleza became the first stadium to be inaugurated for the 2014 World Cup on 16 December 2012 with President Dilma Rousseff attending the opening ceremony.
The Castelão has a total capacity of 64,156 seats and is owned by the State Government of Céara. The Castelão was one of the venues of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 and saw 2014 FIFA World Cup action with four group matches, a match of the round of last 16 and one quarter-final.
